Body-con means “body-conscious”, and body-con articles of wear hug the form. Just like the sweater vest, they come in a wide array of cuts and designs. Everything from jeans that are high-waisted to uber fit dresses to a mini plaid skirt that embraces the female form like a bathing suit (but not in the shiny Spandex material) are all considered to be “body-con”. If you are rather hesitant about trying on body-con clothes, you can wear Spanx underneath, to ensure that everything that needs to be smoothed out is smoothed out. Spanx is the favorite of many celebs, from Oprah to Tyra Banks to the super skinny Eva Longoria, and even the very svelte Jessica Alba. Imagine sheer cycling shorts made out of a material that is as thin as stockings but are very strong. This is what Spanx is. Once you wear Spanx, you can rest assured that you will look great in a body-con skirt. There is nothing to fear!

You can see personalized items almost anywhere. This is because people prefer to choose to use a design that they personally made and conceptualized. Custom shirts are becoming more popular these days because it is the best way to send your message to people. You can also use these shirts when you want to advertise your business or present products and services. You can also wear these shirts for school programs, clubs and organizations. Most students joining political campaigns use these kinds of shirts to present their different advocacy. There are a lot of ways on how you can customize your shirts. First is you can think and draw your own design and bring it to any printing shop. You also have the option to get ready made designs so it would be easier for you. There are also graphics designing tools to help you come up with the ideas you see in your head.

I drove by the Borders bookstore on 95th Street in Chicago, in the area known as Evergreen Park. The Saturday afternoon traffic was a bit backed up, but it was the perfect opportunity for me to take a right turn into the parking lot of the permanently closing store — the self-same one with 40% – 60% off signs in bright colors plastered to the front of the building’s facade.
Alone without kids or hubby rushing me out or to the children’s section, I was able to take my time and search through many of the sections. A good thing, because the workers didn’t have the ability to search on their computers for the books that were in stock — due to the “we don’t know what’s in stock” state of the closing store.
After picking out a foil jewelry kit for my daughter and a robot making toy kit for my son, there was only one book I wanted for myself, a book titled, “How to Not Look Old.” Mercifully, there was one copy of “How to Not Look Old” waiting for me on the shelf in the southwest corner of the store, beyond the heavy-set motorcycle looking guy reading the crazy looking comics or wild video game boxes.
Getting in line, I read a handwritten sign near a table of knick-knacks meant to entice customers waiting for their turns at the register. “Please don’t set the items you don’t want here,” it admonished. “We are already losing our jobs, don’t make it harder for us!”
After purchasing my copy of the much-wanted book, I took it back to my dad’s house and soaked up the wisdom of the author, who gave a bunch of tips — tip after tip, mind you — of ways women like me (40-somethings and beyond — and perhaps younger) can employ to not make old-lady looking mistakes.
She not only mentioned cool Mommy jeans like Not Your Daughter’s Jeans, but also her love of all things Spanx. Charla Krupp’s book was published back in 2008, so the Spanx stuff for men wasn’t out yet. Neither does she mention the kind of swimming suits that slim women down, at least not from my memory. Yet she is very heavy on product details, even to the point of opening up her own Blackberry to provide recommendations for women to seek out to get their hair done, their eyebrows waxed, find a new colorist, etc.
She gives tips about highlighting our hair at least a couple of shades lighter than our normal shades, in order to bring a glow around our faces — and urges women to consider wearing bangs so they won’t look so harsh, and can naturally hide any wrinkled foreheads behind the wisps of sexy hair. Krupp addresses hair loss, as well as even touching on the methods African-American women can deal with their hairstyles in a “young and hip” way, perhaps by wearing natural hair or other flattering styles.
There is universally wise advice, such as 40-year-old women not trying to act and dress like a 20-year-old, the kind of actions that can actually age them. The best lesson from the best-selling tome is that a woman taking care of herself and attempting to look younger instead of like an old bag is that it’s not just merely an exercise in vanity. Looking younger and happier and healthier can affect everything from job and career success and relationships and more.
So it’s not just about being conceited and vain and self-serving. Charla touches on plastic surgery, Botox, varicose vein removal or coverage by make-up and other undertakings to keep up a young and fresh appearance. I already shared tips with my sister from the book — chiefly that Krupp pushes pink lip gloss on older women so they won’t look too harsh or thin-lipped with darker or bold red shades.

Preparations for spring formals across the county are in full swing. Most of the special occasions will be in the month of May. However some of the formal dances will be as early as April – which is just around the corner.
So what type of look do you want your young debutante to have? Will you go for a cocktail dress or possibly the ball gown look. Much of this depends on personal taste and style. However there are a few cuts for formal dresses that are more flattering on certain body types than others. For instance you probably may not want to put a long cocktail dress on someone who is under 5 feet tall. It could possibly make them look frumpy.
Look for styles that will compliment the body frame of the young girl. Don’t be too concerned with color as much as you are cut. Having a garment with the proper fit is always a good idea as well.
