The Sun – Our Very Own Star

We all take things for granted. For example, when the Sun goes down at night, we are all very confident that it will reappear the next morning. But what if it didn’t? Imagine if the Sun was to just disappear one day. Then we would realise how dependent we are on the Sun for our very existence.

As you are probably aware, astronomy tells us that the Sun is actually a star. It is made of gas – mostly hydrogen and helium. The Sun converts the hydrogen into helium by a process known as nuclear fusion, which releases the energy we use here on Earth. The Sun also affects our weather patterns and magnetic storms on the Sun can cause havoc with our communications systems.

The Sun is very old – about five billion years – and will probably last another five billion years. It’s incredible to think it has been releasing all that energy for such a long time. The Sun really is a remarkable object which we should never take for granted.

Have You Seen These Beyblade Toys Yet

I guess playthings really have changed since I was a child. I remember the good old fashioned ‘top’ and how much fun the kids would have spinning it and watching the colors fade from one to the other. Now days the top has been transformed into something unrecognizable to me, have you seen these beyblade toys yet? I saw them in the toy store and literally had to call my son over to explain what they were and how to use them. He went into a detailed explanation about how they have beyblade tournaments with each other and the rules are so technical. If my beyblade stops spinning or gets knocked out of the arena I am out of the game and then the other person advances to the next level. I told him it sounded like a combination of marbles and chess; shaking his head and with a sigh he just walked away. I never knew that keeping up with the newest toys would be so difficult to understand, at least for a mom they are hard to understand.
